Mmmmm pots and pans... this is what my life has resorted to!

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

It may not be a song, but I am struggling to get the words to “Hop on Pop” out of my head (have read that book at least 20 times to my niece in the past few days). Damn Dr Seuss….

Considering riding to and from work when I move - will be much closer to my workplace.

Expensive weekend……

I BOUGHT AN APARTMENT!!!!!

Finally. Went to auction and as the highest bidder I was first in line for negotiations with the vendors through the real estate agents. Very exciting/scary/draining process.

Was interesting that afternoon to read that it’s a Good time to buy.

Also saw Jon Stevens on the Saturday night (ex-Noiseworks and was lead singer for INXS for a few years after Michael and before they decided to do their reality tv program). A very attractive man indeed.

Oh my, what a weekend! More details tomorrow!

Friday, December 16, 2005

Heading to Rubys Lounge tomorrow night. Has been described as an "Oasis in a Desert of Bogans". Rather confused - do I wear my tight jeans and moccasins?? Rock on!

Target Audience...
A billboard - observed at the company's christmas function that was held at a lawn bowls club:

Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Went for a practice game of lawn bowling last night (in preparation for Christmas party next month). Was rather funny. Played with Tony (who I couldn’t help but call "Tones") and Marian ("Mazza"), who were in their mid 70's visiting from Derbyshire. Were very encouraging. For $8, there was a light meal, free drink and a game of lawn bowls. It was like just like school camp, but with beer!

Just read Derek's post regarding Baby Boom #2. Within the past hour I have been told of two friends who are expecting (to add to the other three who I know of). Crazy!

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Pet hate – people who stand over your shoulder watching you as you near your highest ever score on the timed version of Bejeweled 2 giving occasional hints… grrr…

Monday, November 21, 2005

I had my first official “tick tock, tick tock” Bridget Jones comment this weekend...

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

See Iain, at least Ali comes to visit me!!
Drinking session at The Windsor
It was a long Saturday evening...

Wish You Well – Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger)

Up so early it feels so bright
I didnt get much sleep last night
Freight train rattled through my head
Whistle blow in love is dead, is dead

Heart attack by fear and doubt
Wont be long till the truth comes out
First impressions never last
Lovers bombs they hold so fast

Restless future burning bright
Past is holding on so tight
Never heard the warning bell
And i just want to wish you well
I just want to wish you well
I just want to wish you well

Welcome swallows dip and swing
Take the cue from the slightest thing
Rolling fog into my room
Why’d you give up on me so soon, so soon

I just want to wish you well
I just want to wish you well

I have just been accused of being an ‘auction junkie’… No denial here – I love a good property auction…. Attending a couple this weekend, just wish I could find something I want to actually bid on….

Love Nellie's description of women who insist on carrying numerous bags to and from work. Described as carrying around a 'small luggage set'!

I observed a lady listening to a discman this morning while waiting for the train. Somehow looked so out of place...

7.06 annual leave days accrued.

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

After becoming the “special guest” for the social club at work (ie. organsing the Christmas function single handedly), I can understand why Heather Locklear never became a permanent cast member on Melrose Place....

Thursday, October 13, 2005

Greg? Who the *%$! is Greg?

Have been invited via email to “Greg’s going away drinks” tomorrow night. Apparently works here. Don’t think I’ve ever met him, yet was on the hand-picked email list. What am I? Rent-a-crowd? Knowing me, the chances are rather high that I will attend – get thirsty by the time Friday night comes around! I’m going to miss Greg….

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

Think its time I bought myself a present. Was afraid to purchase before as I was convinced I would never leave the house, this way I can take my obsession to and from work. (knowing me, I would travel an extra couple of train stops just to finish a level.....)

Would also minimize my playing of Bubbles which really is a very boring game...

Dave (WD from Vancouver) has finally started a blog!

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

Would you believe...

Damn KAOS!

Loved Get Smart....

Friday, September 23, 2005

Not only is it one day away from the end of football season, but I also have 5.5 annual leave days accrued. Could this week get any better?

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

Going to see Les Miserables next month at the
National Theatre in St Kilda next month. A little bit extravagant even if I do say so myself. Last two treats have been books. “A Thrifty Woman’s handybook” (home renovation on a budget) and Your Mortgage and how to pay it off in five years. Crazy life I lead…

Monday, September 19, 2005

Attending a BBQ this weekend to watch the Australian Rules Football Grand Final. I’m vegetarian and I dislike football. Any excuse for a glass of wine though…

Friday, September 16, 2005

Not sure how keen I am to continue my property hunt this weekend after a real estate agent was killed while showing a house.

Have been really enjoying Jonny B's blog. Funny man.

Wednesday, September 07, 2005

Petrol now at $1.40 a litre...

4.39 annual leave days accrued!

Monday, August 22, 2005

Of all the people in the world to hook up, Courtney Love and English comedian who plays Alan Partridge???! Are they serious - check out pictures...Back of the net!

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Petrol at $1.28 a litre. Crazy!

This is going to be me during my retirement years...

Saturday, August 13, 2005

Was shocked when I read this morning in the paper. Aside from the accusations that he was involved in the death of his wife, Joe Korp is a selfish, selfish man.

Friday, August 12, 2005

Parents return home from 6 weeks overseas travel on Monday. Mumma Bear leaves for Sydney on Wednesday. So much for taking responsibility - when she had me 30 odd years ago, she made a commitment to look after me and she is off galavanting around not only this country, but the world. As you can tell, I am not happy.

3.29 Annual leave days accrued...

My new work laptop smells so nice....kind of like a new car smell...

Friday, August 05, 2005

My parents are currently in Vancouver. Perhaps they'll drop by the Railway Club for a martini. Oh so jealous!

Friday, July 29, 2005

Been a very weird week. Very excited to hear from a friend from the past, while one of my best friends is across the other side of the world in shock and hurting... sometimes life just isn't fair. Been a sad few days.

Wednesday, July 27, 2005

2.46 days annual leave. Thats nearly half a week! 11 months until holiday time...

Monday, July 25, 2005

Monster Mice - not missing the UK very much after reading this article.

Thursday, July 14, 2005

The second house I lived in during my time in Leeds was two streets away from the "factory" where the bombs were constructed. On the map the arrow shows Alexandra Grove, I lived south, down on Burley Lodge Road. Lets just say, it wasn't a very nice area...

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

Houses were searched in Leeds in relation to last weeks tragedy in London. Hyde Park was where I initially lived and Beeston was where I worked on a temporary assignment for a few weeks.

1.69 days annual leave accrued. Woo hoo!! Plans confirmed to travel next year!

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

I really, really, really want to go travelling… (travel bug has hit in the past 24 hours)

Friday, July 08, 2005

Heard from my younger brother this morning at 2:30am who re-located to London three months ago. Not much sleep was had before then! Received a text from Gillian who also let me know she was okay. Still awaiting news from others, but know there is a delay in texts being sent/received.
In ten days time, three-fifths of my immediate family will be in central London. This scares me. A lot.

Looking up property on the net, and I found a place selling for “FCA $320,000”. What does the FCA stand for?

Suggestions from the Net so far;
Fire Cause Analysis
Fishing Club of Australia
Free Computer Answers
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Federation of Canadian Archers

Still none the wiser…

Tuesday, July 05, 2005

Baby Ennea Christo (a.k.a. Baby Orange) arrived on Friday afternoon (1st July). Received a phone call Saturday morning for a visit – was at the hospital within 20 minutes accompanied by my huge half-dried hair! Oh so gorgeous (Ennea’s not too bad either…!)

Friday, July 01, 2005

I wonder if Tanya is going to dump me for our regular coffee date tomorrow morning? Wouldn’t be surprised if she came up with some excuse such as giving birth… (just a feeling - yet to confirm this rumour)

Thursday, June 23, 2005

Funky Town

Pseudo Echo, Brian Mannix and Scott Carne are playing in a tribute to the 80s show later this month at a few cheesy venues around Melbourne. Slightly tempted...

Monday, June 20, 2005

June 2004 Saturday night - Leesa and Tanya chain-smoking, sending husband-to-be out for more bottles of Four Sisters and finishing up a night of constant chatter around 5am…

June 2005 Saturday night – Leesa sitting on the couch knitting. Tanya eight and a half months pregnant ironing baby clothes. Both watching a DVD.

How life changes…

Friday, June 17, 2005

Already researching hotels in New York when in reality I won’t be taking any annual leave for at least 12 months. Doesn’t hurt to be prepared! (will attempt to put a countdown meter on this blog over the weekend – a 365 day countdown – can you tell I really, really need a decent holiday?!).

Although on the payroll at work, yet to officially begin in new role apart from attending a couple of meetings. Hopefully handover occurs soon – interviews for current position supposedly taking place in a week or so. (going to be difficult to give up….)

Fingers crossed for house hunting adventures this weekend….

$75 for an Oasis ticket? Contemplating...

Monday, June 06, 2005

House hunted on the weekend. One place looked great online, smallest bedroom I’ve ever seen and no obvious place for a fridge. Was very bizarre… needless to say, I continue the hunt next weekend….

Was babysitting four children on Friday night. Put the two girls to bed and 3 year old Charlotte requested reading a book with a torch for five minutes. I was hesitant in allowing it as it was already 20 mins past their bed time. She informed me, "its okay, because I can't even read!". Was very cute indeed!

Wednesday, June 01, 2005

Finally I have been offered a permanent position with the company I’ve been contracted to for the past 16 months. Yet to get too excited – want to read the contract before agreeing to anything! Looking forward to accumulating annual leave…

Serious house hunting will take place this weekend. I am already venturing outside the areas I want to buy, but I also want to know what’s out in the market place so I don’t make the mistake I made a few months ago by not putting in an offer on my ideal apartment.

May need to get a third or even fourth job if I am planning on paying off a mortgage and using all my annual leave to travel overseas!

Wednesday, May 25, 2005

Was fun watching my friend Peter Davenport on popular Australian series Blue Heelers last night.

Tanya and Arthur’s baby (who I’ve affectionately named “Baby Orange” – if Gwyenth and Chris can call their baby Apple, then this baby is going to be called Orange!) is due to arrive in a months time. Looking forward to having my drinking friend back! Even for just one glass of wine! Also looking forward to having a baby to play with – its been a while since any of my friends have had babies!

Funny observation by AGB.

Monday, May 23, 2005

Looking forward to attending the wedding of my good friend Simon this weekend. Only problem is that Simon is also my hairdresser – have spent the past few weeks hunting around for someone else to do my hair for the occasion!

Having Vancouver cravings of late. Not good as I really can't justify taking time off work just yet - no annual leave days accrued...

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

I am determined to find a place to buy that I absolutely love in this weekend….. just wish it was as easy as that. A few months ago I found a gorgeous apartment – was advised by numerous people to hold off until auction and not to put in an offer beforehand. Unfortunately someone else had their offer accepted on the Friday before the Sunday auction. Still so mad!

Thursday, May 12, 2005

Cam and Jay leave for Canada, UK and Europe on Saturday on their biking adventure. Lets hope for regular blog updates!

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Went to the Chateau Yering yesterday for lunch in the Yarra Valley. Gorgeous place for a wedding (no, don’t even think about it – not mine, unless of course Robbie Williams finally calls...)

All the organisation thats needed before a vacation makes you wonder if its really worth while taking time off....

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

The catering for Ghost Rider is set up just outside my office today. May go down and have a cuppa with Nicholas Cage at some point during the morning.... Watched a little bit of filming last night after work - many people doing the same. In Los Angeles and Vancouver, people are accustomed to seeing film shoots, but for Melbourne it really is a novelty!

My younger brother leaves today to go and live in London. Although very excited for him, I am also afraid he will experience the horrible few months I had when I first arrived in that city. Three years later and I still shudder thinking of that time…

Monday, April 18, 2005

Highly recommend The Tuck Inn in Healsville where we stayed this weekend. Horse races, laughter and champagne - love weekends like that!

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

Rumour has it that Declan who I met a few weeks ago in Jan Juc will be in the Big Brother house this year. What the media would give to get their hands on some very "natural" shots my friend took a few weeks ago for the Torquay Football Club calendar... Never known anyone who has been in Big Brother before. Very exciting!

Tuesday, April 12, 2005

I just booked a holiday. My first holiday in 18 months. Have had one sick day in all that time. Starting to get tired, but I’m sure a week up in Cairns will do me the world of good! I think some Sangria may be on the menu...

Monday, April 11, 2005

Disappointed. Should have followed my heart….

Where is this “something better around the corner” that everyone keeps referring to?

Perhaps I need a holiday...

Welcome back to the blogging world Nellie!

Last night’s tribute to Paul Hester was fantastic, but also very emotional. Musicians galore and some amusing stories told by Mick Malloy, John Clarke and a very very funny Mark Little.

Kookaburra sits in the old gumtree
merry, merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh
kookaburra, gay your life must be.

Council considers naming street after Paul Hester. Nice gesture.

Keep the good vibes coming….

Wednesday, April 06, 2005

Game On!! Would appreciate any good vibes to be sent my way!!

Tuesday, April 05, 2005

Wish I had a crystal ball to see what I’ll be doing this time next week…..

Going to the wake for Paul Hester tomorrow night at the POW.

Monday, April 04, 2005

"Sister madly waking up the dead
You're systematically stepping on my head
Now you're heading down to get someone
Someone that you should've had years ago
The position is coming through
All the people that you're standing on
All the people that you're standing on
You're hard to get a hand on
Sister madly waking up the dead
You're systematically stepping on my head"

Sister Madly - Crowded House

Listened to a few tribute programs to Paul Hester over the weekend. Laughed out loud when a friend admitted school assemblies at his children’s school will never be the same. Paul used to heckle the principal!

Tuesday, March 29, 2005

Spent another great weekend down in Jan Juc. (can’t work out why I wasn’t invited to enter the Miss Bells Beach 2005 competition though….). Had a chat with Josie Jason who I haven't seen for years. Easter bunny left an easter egg for me in my car on Sunday....

Currently struggling through Day One of detox. 9 more days to go - lets just see if I last….

Sad news this weekend with the passing of Crowded House drummer Paul Hester. Very shocking...

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

I have just accepted a permanent position with the company where I’ve been working as a contractor for the last 14 months. Am I growing up? Certainly looking forward to paid annual leave!

Saturday, March 19, 2005

I can feel a very stressful, yet very exciting week ahead. More news later...

Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Love long weekends! Went down to Jan Juc - spent quite a bit of time in the Bells Beach Hotel. Funny weekend with former high school friends!

Friday, March 04, 2005

Last night was over at a friends place and was about to leave when her husband was dropped home by an off duty paramedic – he had been hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. We did a house raid trying to find dettol etc. to clean up his cuts and grazes. I did a quick Safeway run to purchase a few things including tissues. I came back to find his bleeding elbow covered with a sanitary napkin held on with sticky tape. I shouldn’t laugh…. But I couldn’t help it!!

Babysitting little M. the other night who is just lovely. I was putting him to bed and he always has questions to ask about something that time of night. He asked me the other night if I was married. I said no, then paused, and said "Why? You offering?" he quickly responded "no, no, no I'm only 7!!"

The Three Day Rule? What ever happened to the Three Day Rule? Don’t people play by the rules anymore?

Just the one photo of last Saturday night. More to be published later. Yes, Jen really did attend her own 70's themed 30th dressed as a Playboy Bunny (husband went as Hugh Hefner) - and looked fantastic!!

Band dilemma
Although its a Wednesday, want to see two gigs on the same night next week; Montreal band 'The Dear' at The Prince of Wales in St Kilda, and the good looking Australian (New Zealander?) (mmm mighty good looking!) Jon Stevens at the Cornish Arms. Venues too far apart to do both. Which ever I decide, must remember to have a nanna-nap this weekend in preparation - not longer accustomed to going out during the week!

Monday, February 21, 2005

Some tickets already on sale for the 2005 Melbourne Comedy Festival. Definately going to see Tripod and one of the late night shows at the Hi-Fi Bar. I can only hope Bob Franklin puts together a show... I love this man

Ali's bus entry ;

“…when you are on a bus, going along quite happily, and then the driver brakes, making everyone bow suddenly forward towards him, as if to say, yes driver, we heartily thank you for braking so abruptly. Bless you and all who are like you.”

Friday, February 11, 2005

Definitely time for a hair cut, starting to resemble Neil from The Young One’s….

Sunday, February 06, 2005

Derek posted about The Flu tour of 1995. Difficult to believe it was ten years ago that we first met the guys from Canada – was a sleep deprived few weeks!! Recently had a drink outside the Armadale Hotel where I first met Derek, Alistair, Seb and Dirk when they supported Melbourne funk band The Truth. I was in Greville Street for the first time in probably 10 years a few weeks ago and visited The Station Hotel – another venue the band played at. Hopefully visiting Vancouver towards the end of the year – I wonder if I can convince them to do a one off show? Somehow I think not….

Thursday, February 03, 2005

Photos resulting from last night's storm in Melbourne. Commute this morning was close to two and a half hours in comparison to the usual one hour. Apparently snow on a couple of the mountains in Victoria. We are in the middle of summer??

Luna Park entrance after yesterday's storm....

Monday, January 31, 2005

Midnight Oil performed for Wave Aid in Sydney over the weekend. Saw some of the televised event - would have been brilliant...

Friday, January 28, 2005

The official apartment/house hunting begins this weekend. Looking online there doesn’t seem to be too much around, but not in any real hurry. At this point in time, the only furniture I’ll be able to afford are a couple of milk crates….

Monday, January 24, 2005

Meeting with a home finance manager tomorrow. I think I could be growing up.....

Monday, January 17, 2005

Went to see Nick Barker and the Backyard Six on Saturday night at the Duke of Windsor. The set ended with a rather drunken "You Am I"'s Tim Rogers joining the band.

I think I could be having a mid-life crisis…. Seriously started looking at purchasing property and getting myself into an extraordinary amount of debt….

Friday, January 14, 2005

Perhaps I was a little dramatic in my last post. Just sometimes I wish I could control the timing of things…. (very cryptic indeed!)…

Thursday, January 13, 2005

Sometimes life just isn’t fair…

Monday, January 10, 2005

Weekend birthday celebrations were fantastic. One of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time! Stokehouse, Gunn Island, Snakepit, 7-Eleven, Totto Tottos, Moonlight cinema, Joes Garage.

Wednesday, January 05, 2005

Today is the last day of my 20’s…. I’m not going to freak out, I’m not going to freak out….

Update: Less than 9 hours left…..
